A Passive Lifestyle Makes a Person Less Happy

Chinese researchers found that adherence to the concept of "tang ping" ("lying flat") may reduce life satisfaction in the long term. This is reported by PsyPost.

This social trend is prevalent among young Chinese people: its supporters refuse career advancement, irregular working hours, and purchasing real estate, limiting themselves to meeting minimal needs.

The study included two stages. In the first stage, 960 Beijing students (average age — 20 years, 55 percent — male) filled out a questionnaire about their lifestyle and level of life satisfaction. In the second stage, 109 students from Chinese universities (average age — 19 years) underwent two surveys with a one-month interval.

The results confirmed the negative impact of "tang ping" on life satisfaction both in the short term and in the long term. The authors noted that while this approach helps temporarily cope with pressure, it can worsen psychological well-being in the future.
