Dark streaks on light shoes appear when they come into contact with other surfaces. We explain how to get rid of them.
Dimexid, which is sold at pharmacies, is effective for leather shoes: it is first tested on an inconspicuous area, then applied to a cotton pad and used to wipe away dirt. A melamine sponge or table vinegar also works well.
For faux leather shoes, use acetone-free nail polish remover or a soapy solution with a drop of ammonia. Then wipe away the residue with a damp cloth and let the shoes dry.
Nubuck and suede are treated with a foam made from bleaching powder. It is mixed with water until foam forms and applied to the stains with a soft brush. After the foam dries, the dirt is gently scrubbed away, and the residue of the product is removed.
Textile shoes are soaked in warm water with laundry gel and scrubbed with a brush. Stubborn stains are removed with a paste made from baking soda and water. It should sit for 20 minutes before rinsing off.
Another universal method is using a school eraser. Any lint that appears can be removed with a damp cloth.
