How the winner was determined

The winner was determined based on votes from over 1.3 million travelers from 154 countries. Before the public voting began, a team of tourism specialists analyzed more than 500 destinations across Europe.

In the first stage, key performance indicators were considered, such as tourism growth, an increase in online inquiries, social media popularity, and each destination's commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and local development. Based on this analysis, 20 destinations were selected to form the ranking.

Madrid – the best European destination for 2026

As noted by the authors of the ranking, Madrid's leadership confirms its transformation into one of the most attractive capitals in Europe, where culture, lifestyle, gastronomy, and quality of life merge with rare intensity.

However, it also reflects a broader trend shaping the tourist landscape of Europe: destinations defined by identity, excellence, and emotional impact are shaping the future of tourism.

At the heart of Madrid's cultural life is the UNESCO-listed "Golden Triangle of Arts," which brings together the Prado, Reina Sofia, and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums in a unique urban corridor where art, architecture, and nature coexist.

However, Madrid's cultural energy extends far beyond these institutions.
