Flu vaccination may reduce the risk of heart attack by 18 percent 0 9

A meta-analysis has shown a probable link between flu vaccination and a reduced risk of myocardial infarction. Researchers concluded that the vaccine can lower the likelihood of a heart attack by approximately 18 percent. This is reported by BMC Public Health.

The study was based on data from 15 observational studies. More than 23 million people, primarily of older age, participated in these studies. It turned out that vaccinated individuals had a lower risk of heart attack. Moreover, the effect persisted across different subgroups.

Positive trends were observed among both people over 70 years old and younger participants. A decrease in the likelihood of a heart attack was noted even among patients who had already experienced a heart attack or had a similar diagnosis in their medical history. The authors emphasize that during the flu season, the number of cardiovascular events traditionally increases, as the infection can cause systemic inflammation and negatively affect the condition of blood vessels.

At the same time, the researchers point out that the studies included in the analysis were observational in nature, so it is not possible to speak of a direct cause-and-effect relationship. Nevertheless, the results suggest the presence of an additional cardioprotective effect of flu vaccination, which requires further research.
