When Do We Fall in Love Most Often? Science Has Named the Most Romantic Season

According to science, autumn has the greatest potential for true love.

Despite the common belief that love has no season, studies show that certain times of the year are significantly more favorable for starting relationships. As Your Tango writes, changes in daylight, weather, and the usual rhythm of life directly affect people's emotional state and readiness for intimacy, which, according to experts, creates favorable or, conversely, challenging conditions for new romances.

Winter

Despite the warmth of hugs and the romance of cold evenings, winter is not the easiest time for new acquaintances. Clinical psychologist Susan Davis explains that in winter we rush back to our "nests" to warm up and feel protected from the outside world.

Moreover, according to the National Institute of Health, short daylight hours are associated with mood changes and so-called winter blues. In such conditions, finding new love is significantly more difficult.

Spring

After the harsh winter months, spring brings a sense of renewal. However, this time of year often becomes a moment for rethinking relationships. Family therapist Jane Greer notes that in winter, people tend to hold on to existing relationships because it is too dark and heavy to start something new during this period. But in spring, when mood and self-confidence rise, changes can occur.

Summer

Summer is a time for travel, parties, adventures, and new acquaintances. It seems like the perfect time for romance. But summer romances often turn out to be fleeting. Anthropologist Helen Fisher explains this by the constant movement, which makes it difficult to build a stable connection.

At the same time, summer has its advantages. Dr. Michael F. Golick from the University of Michigan notes that being in the sun reduces melatonin levels, making us more open to new ideas and experiences. That’s why it’s easier to meet new people and try something new in the summer.

Autumn

Autumn is the most "serious" time of the year. After the chaos of summer, life returns to its usual rhythm, and this, according to researchers, creates ideal conditions for love.

In 2012, Facebook Data Science published a study that revealed a clear seasonal pattern: it is in autumn that the most users change their status to "In a Relationship" or "Engaged."

This is because, with the approach of cold weather and holidays, people subconsciously seek to have someone by their side to share the winter and festive period. Even dates in autumn become more romantic, and a study from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology showed that people more often choose romantic movies during the cold months.
