Bloating may not only be a sign of digestive problems but also a signal of hidden cardiovascular disorders, warned cardiologist Marcelo Ferraz Sampaio from the University of São Paulo. This was reported by Metropoles.
According to him, bloating is an underestimated symptom of heart diseases and may be accompanied by night sweats, leg swelling, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, and rapid heartbeat. High levels of sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure also indicate an increased risk of cardiovascular pathologies.
In heart failure, especially with damage to the right chambers of the heart, blood flow is disrupted, leading to congestion in the large veins and liver. This venous stasis affects the functioning of the intestines, reducing its peristalsis and provoking gas accumulation, which causes bloating and discomfort in the abdomen.
The specialist emphasized that when such symptoms appear, it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. During the appointment, it is important to assess vital signs, measure the pulse, examine the veins, perform palpation, and auscultate the chest to identify or rule out heart pathology.
