Longevity experts note that life expectancy depends not only on genetics but also on daily dietary choices.
The development of medicine, technology, and better access to quality nutrition have significantly impacted life expectancy. At the same time, diet remains one of the key risk areas. What products are better never to buy because they shorten life is explained by RBC-Ukraine, citing longevity expert Dan Buettner.
Which Products Shorten Life
The expert has studied the so-called "blue zones" for many years — regions of the world with the highest number of centenarians.
According to him, there are products that should not even be brought home if a person aims to live longer and maintain health.
Processed Meat
This category includes sausages, hot dogs, bacon, and industrially produced meat delicacies. Buettner emphasizes that processed meat is directly linked to an increased risk of cancer, particularly colorectal cancer.
This position is supported by international studies: processed meat is officially classified as a Group 1 carcinogen. Additionally, the high content of salt and saturated fats contributes to the development of cardiovascular diseases and may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Sugary Drinks
The second item on the list is sugary drinks, including sodas and fruit juices with added sugar. The expert notes that this is the main source of refined sugar in the diets of many countries.
Regular consumption of such drinks is associated with obesity, metabolic disorders, heart problems, and issues with teeth and bones. In more severe cases, liver and kidney damage may occur.
Salty Snacks
Chips, crackers, fried nuts, and other salty snacks, according to the specialist, should not even be an "exception." They contain trans fats, excess salt, and compounds that can form during frying and have a carcinogenic effect.
Such products are associated with high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and the formation of food addiction.
Factory-made Sweets and Pastries
The last item is industrial baked goods and packaged sweets. According to research, regular consumption of such products increases the risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes.
Due to the high content of fructose syrups and refined fats, they negatively affect the liver, heart, and teeth. Moreover, these sweets are specifically designed to be addictive.
Longevity experts note that life expectancy depends not only on genetics but also on daily dietary choices. Limiting ultra-processed products and sugary drinks is one of the simplest steps that can positively impact health in the long term.
