If you want to prepare a delicious fish dish without excessive costs, these herring rolls are an excellent option. The simple filling of vegetables, mushrooms, and cheese makes them juicy and aromatic, and the finished dish is equally tasty both hot and cold.
Ingredients
- Herring — 1 kg
- Hard cheese — 70 g
- Champignon mushrooms — 100 g
- Onion — 1 pc.
- Carrot — 1 pc.
- Lemon juice — 1.5 tbsp.
- Sour cream — 1.5 tbsp.
- Parsley — 2 sprigs
- Vegetable oil — 1 tbsp.
- Ground black pepper, salt — to taste
Preparation
- Thaw the herring, remove the head, entrails, and backbone, and rinse the fillet well. Season with salt, pepper, and drizzle with lemon juice.
- Dice the onion, grate the carrot, and chop the mushrooms. Grate the cheese and chop the parsley.
- For the filling, sauté the onion, carrot, and mushrooms in vegetable oil for 5–7 minutes, then add the cheese and parsley, mix, and let cool slightly.
- Place the filling on the fish and roll it up, securing with a toothpick.
- Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with sour cream, and bake at 180 °C for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and carefully take out the toothpicks.
Tips
- You can use any fat percentage of sour cream.
