How to Properly Clean Your Smartphone Charging Port

Attempts to "extract" dirt with needles, pins, or other sharp metal objects are fraught with damaging the internal contacts.

Your smartphone is a device that accompanies you for most of the day, and its exposure to external factors is inevitable. The USB charging port is an open vulnerable spot where dirt, dust, lint, and other "debris" accumulate over time.

Fortunately, as with cleaning the dust from most mobile devices, removing these contaminants is quite simple. Moreover, it can be done by yourself, as stated in the BGR material.

It is important to understand that the USB-C port is very fragile. If you try to "dig" it out with sharp objects, the result can be unfortunate: damaged contacts, charging issues, connection failure. Therefore, the best method is to be as gentle as possible, avoiding physical contact, using compressed air.

How to Safely Clean Your Smartphone Charging Port Before starting the procedure, be sure to turn off the smartphone to avoid short circuits and damage to the device.

Compressed air is the ideal tool for safely cleaning your phone's USB-C port. A few short bursts of air directed into the port usually free it from dust/debris and help avoid damaging the contacts.

Take a can of compressed air, holding the nozzle a couple of centimeters away from the port. Direct the air stream while slightly tilting the phone so that the dust "flies out": Do not spray air for more than two seconds at a time; move the tube a bit to blow out the port from all sides.

You should conduct this cleaning about once a month – usually, during this period, "debris" and dust accumulate in the port. If the device is not in use, it makes sense to cover the port with a special dust plug – this will reduce the likelihood of new dirt entering.

A dirty port is the first and most common reason why your smartphone does not charge. Therefore, paying a little attention to its cleanliness is much easier and cheaper than repairing the consequences.
