It is difficult to be friendly when you have so many worries and troubles. In the modern world, people are increasingly withdrawing into themselves and becoming less open to those around them. Fewer neighbors greet each other when they meet, which is a shame! A recent study by scientists showed that greeting strangers and wishing them a good morning boosts mood, improves mental health, and simply makes you happier.

A large group of 60,000 people, including 40,000 Britons, participated in this study. They completed a survey about their well-being, mood, and daily social habits.

The results, published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, showed that people who interacted more with strangers reported greater life satisfaction.

The authors of the study emphasize that short-term contacts, greetings, and expressions of gratitude can enhance well-being. It is not necessary to stop and have a conversation; a simple greeting or nod is enough.

Perhaps this happens due to an increased sense of belonging to society. It awakens in people a sense of their own significance and importance, which is a fundamental need of every person and influences their level of happiness.

Additionally, according to a Gallup survey, greeting neighbors can improve financial well-being and contribute to career success. Adults in the U.S. who regularly greet several people in their neighborhood have a higher level of wealth than those who greet fewer neighbors or do not greet anyone at all.
