The main question is no longer whether they are appropriate in a casual wardrobe, but how to make them a part of everyday life without turning the look into a masquerade. Stylist Masha Vedernikova provided effective rules and ideas on how to do this.
One Shiny Detail Instead of Full Sparkle
In a casual look, sequins should work as an accent rather than as the central element of the overall idea. "It could be a sequined skirt complemented by a simple sweater and chunky boots, or a shiny top under a voluminous cardigan and coat. Such a combination creates a balance between festiveness and everyday wear. The sequins stop being too aggressively prominent and start to subtly shimmer against the backdrop of matte fabrics," says the expert.
Contrast with Rough and Warm Textures
In winter, sequins look especially beautiful in tandem with wool, knitwear, denim, tweed, and leather. Soft cashmere and shiny surfaces, rough denim and cold shine, thick wool socks or a bulky hoodie and a thin, light-reflecting fabric — this contrast makes the look complex and stylish. Sequins cease to be festive and become part of a conscious, layered wardrobe.
Calm Color Palette
If you want to wear sequins in everyday looks, it's better to choose not loud shades but deeper and more complex ones. "Champagne, graphite, cool silver, dusty rose, dark emerald, sapphire, or wine. Such colors look noble and harmoniously fit into the basic palette, making the look more interesting without overloading it. If you're unsure about the appropriateness of a particular shade, feel free to choose monochrome; you won't go wrong," advises the stylist.
Shiny Accessories as a Safe First Step
If sequins on clothing seem too bold a choice, you can start with details. A bag with a shiny texture, a belt with a metallic sheen, sequin shoes, a headband, or even gloves with a delicate shine. Accessories allow you to add sparkle in a targeted way, keeping the overall look minimalist and composed. This is the simplest and most elegant way to introduce chic, shine, and beauty into a dull everyday life.
Subdued Makeup and Simple Hairstyle
When sequins are present in the look, it's best to keep the rest as clean and calm as possible. Carelessly gathered hair, a sleek ponytail, soft waves, or a simple bun look especially advantageous, and in makeup, a focus on fresh skin and neat eyelashes is sufficient.
