It turns out that to fit the maximum amount of items in a backpack or bag, they do not need to be rolled into bundles. There is one simple trick for folding clothes to free up more space in a suitcase - it accommodates much more than with regular rolling.
How to Fit the Maximum Amount of Clothes in a Suitcase
When preparing for a trip abroad, the question of how to pack items compactly in a suitcase during a move (especially when there is a baggage limit) can become a real headache. It is often recommended to roll clothes into bundles to save space; however, it turns out there is a more effective method, writes the British tabloid Express.
The so-called KonMari method, invented by Marie Kondo, suggests that it is better to fold items into neat rectangles - and then lay them side by side in the suitcase, thereby filling every inch of space.
Here’s how to fold items in a suitcase to take up less space:
-
Take one item and fold one side to the middle, then cover it with the other side to form a rectangle; after that, fold it in half lengthwise;
-
Then fold it in half again - until you have a compact small rectangle that can easily be placed next to other items in the suitcase.
Another great life hack for packing clothes in a suitcase and saving space is to use vacuum bags. For this, clothes are placed in a bag, sealed, and the air is removed using a vacuum cleaner – such a bag will take up minimal space.
Experts also advise against taking bulky toiletries - shampoo or shower gel. Most hotels provide them for free, and you can use mini versions of your favorite cosmetics or buy them on-site. However, it would be wise to take organizers for cables and jewelry - they will eliminate the need to rummage through suitcases, turning everything upside down.
Another brilliant way to pack a suitcase was suggested by travel expert Annabelle Kate, who spent three years traveling around the world. She advises packing clothes in the suitcase flat: "If items are laid flat, much more can fit in. And at the same time, the clothes don’t wrinkle and creases don’t appear."
With this method, Annabelle manages to pack a standard suitcase with whatever outfits she wants - from formal wear to beach attire.
