You can remove stains and keep carpets clean without dry cleaning — just a few proven methods that really work at home.
Coffee and Other Dark Beverage Stains
Mix glass cleaner with water in a 1:2 ratio. Spray the solution on the stain, cover it with a white cotton cloth or an old t-shirt, and press with an iron. The stain will transfer to the fabric.
Pet Hair
A regular squeegee with a rubber edge works great for removing pet hair. Static electricity helps to quickly pull the fibers out of the carpet.
Cleaning Fluffy Carpets with Long Pile
A vacuum cleaner can pull threads and damage the surface. It’s better to use a lint roller for the surface, and then flip the rug over and vacuum it from the back.
Chewing Gum
Place an ice cube on the stained area for 5–10 minutes. When the gum hardens, carefully remove it with a plastic card or any hard flat object.
Universal Stain Remover
Mix in a spray bottle:
- baking soda,
- dish soap,
- vinegar.
Apply the mixture to the stain and treat it with a clean sponge.
How to Raise Flattened Pile
Indentations remain on the carpet from furniture. Place a piece of ice on them and let it melt. When the pile gets wet, gently brush it with a toothbrush or a clothing brush.
