Prince William explained why he forbids his children from using smartphones

Prince William revealed that he and Kate's children do not use phones. George may get his first smartphone only when he transitions to middle school.

Prince William spoke about the rules he and Kate Middleton follow in raising their children – 12-year-old George, 10-year-old Charlotte, and 7-year-old Louis. One of them is a complete ban on smartphones.

Speaking at the Earthshot Prize 2025 environmental award in Brazil, the prince noted that this rule is becoming increasingly difficult to enforce, especially when it comes to the eldest child.

"When George goes to middle school, he may get a smartphone with limited internet access," Prince William admitted.

According to him, the decision to forgo gadgets is a conscious one. The parents want to protect their children from the excessive influence of social media and uncontrolled access to information. At the same time, the heir to the throne points out that children still need to stay connected. To send SMS and make calls, they have a 'brick' – a regular button phone without internet access.

The prince also emphasized that it is important in their family to maintain honesty and openly talk to children about any, even difficult, topics. William confessed that the hardest rule for him and Kate is to be candid, especially when it comes to the health of the princess.

Recall that in the spring of 2024, Kate Middleton announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer. After a course of treatment, the princess achieved remission and gradually returned to public life. Despite a wave of rumors, Kate is currently actively participating in charitable and state events.
