Winter Hazards for Women's Health: What Diseases Occur Most Often

In cold weather, the female body experiences additional stress: low temperatures, increased humidity, and seasonal colds weaken the immune system. As a result, chronic diseases worsen and the risk of new health problems increases.

Two Main Winter Diseases in Women

According to gynecological oncologist Ekaterina Timofeeva, the most common conditions during the winter are salpingitis and salpingo-oophoritis — inflammations of the fallopian tubes and ovaries.

The main reason is the decrease in the body's protective functions due to hypothermia or severe cases of ARVI. Infections play a secondary role, as the immune system is usually capable of handling them.

If these diseases are not treated, serious consequences may occur: adhesions, chronic inflammatory diseases, as well as infertility and obstruction of the fallopian tubes.

How to Protect Yourself

To reduce the risk of these diseases, doctors recommend:

  • regularly visiting a gynecologist;
  • avoiding sitting on cold surfaces;
  • not limiting winter clothing to just nylon tights;
  • keeping the body warm;
  • supporting the immune system.

Additionally, it is important for a woman and her partner to undergo regular screenings for sexually transmitted infections — timely detection and treatment prevent many serious complications.

"Currently, there is a high percentage of tubal-peritoneal infertility, where adhesions form in the fallopian tubes, making them obstructed. This is often the result of such inflammatory diseases," the doctor noted.
