Warm, fragrant, and a bit magical — roasted tea will warm you on chilly autumn evenings and fill the kitchen with the aromas of spices and citrus. This simple recipe transforms an ordinary evening into a small home ritual.
Ingredients
- Black tea with bergamot — 2–3 tsp.
- Lemon and orange zest — 1 tsp each.
- Sugar — 2 tbsp.
- Mulled wine spices (cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg) — ½ tsp.
- Juice of half an orange and a slice of lemon
- Boiling water — 500 ml
Preparation
- Heat a skillet, add the black tea, zest, and spices.
- Add sugar to the center of the skillet. When it starts to melt and caramelize, squeeze in some orange and lemon juice.
- Roast the mixture for a few minutes without overheating to release the aromas.
- Transfer the mixture to a teapot, pour in boiling water, and steep for 3–5 minutes.
- Strain and enjoy. For an impressive presentation, you can add a spoonful of honey or a slice of orange.
Tips
- For a milder flavor, use a blend of black and green tea.
- Add a piece of fresh ginger or a few cardamom seeds for a warming effect.
- To make the tea "wintery," pour in a bit of orange juice or a splash of rum before serving.
The aroma of roasted tea is like fresh cookies and a warm blanket in one sip. It is not only delicious but also creates a mood, turning an ordinary evening into a small celebration.
