The cold season is by no means a reason to turn into a bundled-up, multi-layered, indistinct matryoshka and hide style under a puffer jacket. On the contrary, it is in winter that shoes become the main accent of the outfit: they should be comfortable, warm, but also expressive. Experts increasingly talk about functional fashion—shoes that last more than one season, do not lose relevance, and help maintain individuality. Stylist Masha Vedernikova shared which trends are currently relevant.
High Sock Boots
Such models are returning to the runways and street styles. "Soft leather, dense knitwear, or stretch suede tightly hug the leg or beautifully gather in pleats, visually elongating the silhouette. They are worn with short dresses, wool shorts, knee-length coats, or oversized puffer jackets. The main thing is not to be afraid of contrast: a slim boot balances the coarse textures of the top. Look for models with insulated linings and non-slip soles, so that even on icy surfaces, your steps are confident," advises the expert.
Chunky Boots with Tractor Soles
A trend that shows no signs of fading. Massive, treaded soles, as if they came from a construction site, add stability on snow and emphasize strength of character. They can be worn with midi skirts and classic coats. And if you add woolen leg warmers or thick socks, you’ll achieve a Scandinavian cozy aesthetic. Work-style lacing and water-repellent treatment will extend their life in slush and preserve their appearance.

Minimalist Tube Boots
Minimalism at its finest: smooth leather, straight shafts, neutral shades. Such boots go with literally everything—from jeans to light dresses. "There’s no hint of extravagance, but there is elegance, which is especially noticeable in motion. It’s better to choose models without excessive shine, in matte leather or soft nubuck. Opt for a shaft that is half a size wider to comfortably tuck in straight jeans and thick tights," says the stylist.

Short Puffer Boots and Moon Boots
Modern versions have become more compact and lighter than in our mothers' times, and the color solutions are bolder. White, silver, olive, rich burgundy—now such boots can even be paired with a wool suit. The main rule: balance the volume by adding narrow pants or sheer tights. Pay attention to the membrane and temperature regulation: a compact shape does not negate a warm lining.

Boots and Winter Sneakers with Metallic Effect
Glossy surfaces are the new winter gold. Silver, bronze, copper, and even rose metal turn shoes into a jewelry accent. It’s important not to overdo it: let the rest of the outfit be restrained, in calm tones. Such shoes love daylight and look great in a frosty city. Pair them only with thin metallic earrings or a belt with a simple buckle—the look will remain refined.
