Pomegranate tea is a beverage made from various parts of the fruit (peel, flowers, seeds), and black or green tea may also be included in the recipe. It is believed to have been first prepared in Persia, after which it spread to the Mediterranean and then to other regions.

Initially, the discussion was not about a beverage, but about a medicinal decoction made from the peel. It was believed to strengthen the stomach and help combat inflammation and infections. As the drink became more popular, other parts of the fruit were also used.

The widespread popularity of the drink is not only due to its taste but also its rich composition. The tea contains vitamin C, B vitamins, E, K, potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphorus, zinc, polyphenols, ellagic acid, anthocyanins, and tannins.

All of these elements make the tea quite beneficial for health. One of its main values is supporting heart and vascular health. Polyphenols, anthocyanins, and ellagic acid play an important role in preventing the oxidation of cholesterol. Potassium also regulates heart activity by stabilizing the transmission of nerve impulses, which ensures rhythmic heart contractions. Magnesium helps relax the walls of blood vessels, relieving spasms and lowering blood pressure, which reduces the load on the heart.

Pomegranate tea also greatly benefits the immune system. Vitamin C stimulates the synthesis of interferon, which helps fight viruses. Anthocyanins have antimicrobial properties, strengthening the body's defenses.

The value of the product for the digestive system should not be overlooked: tannins have an astringent effect, protecting the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestines, while phenolic compounds suppress the growth of pathogenic microflora, promoting harmonious digestion.

The nervous system also receives support. B vitamins are involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters, magnesium relieves nervous tension and improves sleep, while antioxidants protect nerve cells from damage by free radicals.

However, despite the numerous advantages, it is important to consider that pomegranate tea can also cause health issues if used improperly or consumed excessively. For example, the high content of organic acids can irritate the mucous membranes in cases of gastritis or peptic ulcer disease, and tannins can slow down intestinal motility, causing constipation. It is advisable for children under three years old and pregnant women to limit or avoid its consumption.
