Research shows that modern young people — the so-called Zoomers — show significantly less interest in sex and romantic relationships than previous generations. The expert highlighted three main reasons for this phenomenon.
Expert: Elizaveta Kulikova, Clinical Psychologist
1. A New Attitude Towards Loneliness According to the specialist, previously, single men and women raised many questions. Today, however, loneliness has ceased to be something condemnable and has become a conscious choice.
“Now it is freedom, the preservation of personal resources, and the ability to live at a comfortable pace,” the psychologist noted.
2. The Concept of ‘Living for Oneself’ Young people increasingly see the advantages of independence — the absence of obligations, control, and responsibility for another person. This provides more time, personal space, and financial freedom to fulfill their desires.
3. Psychological Factors Kulikova emphasized that among the Zoomer generation, there is a high level of anxiety and a decrease in resilience to stress, as well as elements of infantilism. All of this reduces the need for intimacy and sexual contacts.
In place of labor-intensive and emotionally draining relationships, Zoomers choose career, self-development, and self-care — both professionally and physically, following the principles of a healthy lifestyle.
