Nutritionists have discussed three types of bread that can cause problems with digestion, heart health, and blood sugar levels.
Bread is a product that many cannot imagine their lives without. However, not all bread is equally healthy. Some types, which may seem harmless, can actually be very detrimental to health — causing spikes in sugar levels, raising cholesterol, and even provoking inflammation in the body. Nutritionists have identified three of the most dangerous types of bread that are better to avoid.
White Bread Made from Refined Flour
This is the most common and at the same time the most harmful type of bread. It is made from refined flour, which contains almost no fiber, vitamins, or minerals. After consuming such bread, blood glucose levels rise rapidly and then quickly fall, causing fatigue and even irritability.
White bread also:
-
contributes to fat accumulation, especially in the abdominal area;
-
causes feelings of hunger just an hour after eating;
-
negatively affects gut microflora.
It is better to choose whole grain or rye bread without added yeast.
Bread with a Long Shelf Life
If the packaging indicates that the bread can be stored for a week or a month — this is a warning sign. Such a product contains preservatives, stabilizers, emulsifiers, and flavor enhancers that help it stay "fresh" on the outside but make it harmful on the inside. Regular consumption of bread with chemical additives can lead to:
-
allergic reactions;
-
liver and kidney dysfunction;
-
decreased immunity.
Alternative: homemade or bakery bread without unnecessary chemicals, which becomes stale in 3 days — this is a sign of naturalness.
"Diet" or "Fitness Bread" with Additives
Many believe that when the packaging says "fitness," "with bran," or "gluten-free" — it is automatically healthy. But this is not always the case. Often, such products contain trans fats, sugar, maltose, flavorings, and caramel that mask the lack of natural taste.
This "pseudo-healthy" bread:
-
overloads the pancreas;
-
provokes inflammation of the blood vessels;
-
can lead to weight gain.
It is better to consume natural bread with simple ingredients — flour, water, salt, and sourdough. It contains fiber, live enzymes, and aids the digestive system.
