Cottage cheese has long been perceived as a classic breakfast option for those who follow the principles of proper nutrition or strive to keep their weight under control.
And this is not surprising at all, since the product is rich in protein, which helps maintain muscle mass, calcium, which is essential for bone and dental health, as well as vitamins A, C, D, E, H, and PP.
However, recently there has been an increasing opinion that one should give up cottage cheese for breakfast, as it is too heavy a product that forces the digestive organs to work, which is extremely harmful right after waking up. Among other complaints, one can note indigestion, which may be caused by lactose, excessive strain on the kidneys due to protein, and irritation of the stomach walls.
But nutritionists do not support these accusations. Doctors are unanimous in their opinion: for the stomach of a healthy person, cottage cheese is harmless, so there are no objective reasons to refuse to eat it for breakfast.
The situation will be completely different if a person has lactose intolerance, an allergy to cow's milk protein, kidney disease, or gastrointestinal problems in an exacerbation phase. In this case, cottage cheese should not only be avoided for breakfast, but it is contraindicated at any time of the day.
