Dangerous Hybrid: The COVID Strain «Frankenstein» Rages in Europe and Asia — What It Threatens

The symptoms of the new COVID-19 strain called 'Frankenstein', which has arrived in Europe and Asia, have been identified.

The new variant of the coronavirus XFG, dubbed 'Frankenstein', accounts for more than 80% of all new cases in Europe. The virus is highly contagious and presents typical COVID symptoms. Let's explore what makes this monster dangerous.

A new variant of the coronavirus XFG is gaining strength in Europe. This Omicron variant, a hybrid of two subvariants, has already been given the code name 'Frankenstein', according to a report from Santé publique France — the French Public Health Information and Expertise Center. COVID statistics since the end of September show a worrying trend: hospitalizations among children under 15 are significantly increasing, and adults are experiencing a slightly slower rise.

Strain Frankenstein

According to the WHO, the new wave of COVID in Europe is linked to the XFG strain. It began spreading in mid-summer 2025. Even then, this variant accounted for the overwhelming majority of infections — 82%.

However, the situation is under control. Despite the rapid spread and increased contagiousness, it is noted that Frankenstein does not cause a more severe course of the disease compared to other circulating strains. Existing vaccines also provide protection against it. They prevent severe forms of coronavirus infection.

COVID Symptoms

The strain is characterized by high contagiousness. Among the most common symptoms of infection with the Frankenstein strain are:

  • sore throat;

  • body aches;

  • runny nose.

Doctors warn that it is important to monitor your health when infected, avoid taking antibiotics without reason, but if your condition worsens, do not hesitate to call a doctor immediately.

Easier to Prevent than to Treat

To avoid infection, wash your hands frequently, wear masks in crowded places, regularly ventilate rooms to prevent the virus from stagnating, and humidify the air to avoid drying out mucous membranes, making them vulnerable.

It is also important to maintain balance in everything. Eat a balanced diet and stay physically active to support an adequate immune response.
