Vegetable Oils

If you are still frying with sunflower or canola oil, thinking it is healthy, it is time to reconsider your approach. A 2017 study showed a direct link between frequent consumption of oils high in omega-6 (sunflower and canola) and an increased risk of memory decline and Alzheimer's disease. For brain health, it is better to use olive oil, and for hot dishes — animal fats.

Tuna

Tuna and swordfish contain the highest levels of mercury among fish. This metal can accumulate in the body and negatively affect the brain. A study from the University of South Florida (USA) showed that people with high levels of mercury in their blood have cognitive functions reduced by 5%.

Fried Foods

When preparing such foods, sunflower or canola oil is often used. Moreover, fatty foods provoke inflammatory processes in the brain. To maintain mental activity, it is preferable to grill, bake, or stew, avoiding frying.

Sugary Drinks

Regular consumption of soda, sweet juices, and even tea with sugar can provide a short-term energy boost, but it increases the risk of inflammatory processes that reduce cognitive functions and contribute to the development of dementia. It is better to drink tea without sugar.

Trans Fats

If we were to choose the most harmful product for the body, trans fats would undoubtedly win this title. They negatively affect most body systems, including the brain. Consumption of products with trans fats increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

Alcohol

Research shows that there is no absolutely safe dose of alcohol for the brain. Even one glass of red wine a week can have a negative impact. In larger doses, alcohol damages brain structure and disrupts its functioning, sometimes irreversibly.

Fast Food

Fast food contains saturated fats, salt, fast carbohydrates, and sugar — all components that destroy the brain. Even one serving of fast food can impair the brain's ability to absorb and process new information.
