Even modern TVs with Smart TV can start to run noticeably slower over time. Users often blame the age of the device or malfunctions; however, the reason is often much simpler. According to experts, in most cases, a simple restart helps restore the TV's previous speed.
As noted by BGR, many device owners mistakenly believe that the television completely turns off after pressing the power button. In reality, most models enter standby mode, continuing to perform background processes and store temporary data in memory.
Over time, such processes accumulate, occupy RAM, and begin to affect the device's performance. As a result, applications launch more slowly, menus may freeze, and streaming video may buffer intermittently.
"Restarting the television works on the same principle as restarting a smartphone or computer: it clears the RAM and terminates unnecessary background processes," experts explain.
How to Properly Restart Your TV
The method depends on the model of the device; however, in most cases, it is sufficient to hold the power button on the remote control for 5–10 seconds.
For example, on Sony TVs, a power-off notification appears afterward, and then the device automatically restarts.
If this method does not help, experts recommend completely disconnecting the TV from the power supply for one to two minutes. This allows all temporary processes to reset and clears the system memory.
What to Do If the Problem Persists
If the TV continues to run slowly after restarting, it is worth checking the amount of free memory. Smart TVs often have installed applications that users have not used for a long time, yet they continue to take up space and system resources.
In such cases, it is recommended to open the application management section and delete all unnecessary apps.
"Freeing up memory often provides a noticeable performance boost even on relatively new TVs," experts note.
Another important point is software updates. If automatic updates are disabled, the system may be using an outdated firmware version, which also affects the device's speed.
Don't Forget About Power Saving Mode
Experts advise paying attention to power-saving settings. While this mode helps reduce electricity consumption, on some TV models, it can limit processor performance and slow down the interface.
Power-saving options can usually be disabled or modified through the "Power" or "System" section in the TV settings.
In most cases, slow operation of a Smart TV is not related to serious malfunctions. Regular restarts, memory clearing, removal of unnecessary applications, and timely system updates help maintain high performance and avoid annoying freezes.
