The experimental antibody-based drug 'Amivantamab' has demonstrated the ability to completely destroy certain tumors in patients with advanced forms of cancer who no longer responded to standard treatment. This is reported by The Guardian.

In an international study conducted in 11 countries, the drug was administered to 102 patients with head and neck cancer. In 43 of them, tumors significantly decreased or completely disappeared just a few weeks after the therapy began.

Similar results were recorded in patients with lung cancer.

"This is an unprecedented strong response in patients whose disease has become resistant to both chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Treatment options for this group of patients are extremely limited, so seeing such a pronounced benefit is quite remarkable," said Professor Kevin Harrington from the Institute of Cancer Research London.

The uniqueness of 'Amivantamab' lies in its targeting of tumors not associated with the human papillomavirus (HPV). Such forms of cancer are usually considered more challenging to treat.

The drug has been approved for use in the U.S. and EU since 2021, but researchers continue to explore its potential for treating various types of oncological diseases.
