iPhone Compared to a Professional Camera

The iPhone 17 Pro can shoot better than an ordinary camera thanks to processing.

PhoneArena journalist Viktor Khristov compared the iPhone 17 Pro with a real camera. The material is available on the media's website.

The specialist explained that he wanted to assess how much worse or better the photos taken on the flagship iPhone are compared to those taken with a professional camera. The author used a Canon EOS R6 Mark II mirrorless camera for the test. Khristov concluded that in some conditions, the smartphone captures better images as it processes the pictures additionally.

The author discovered that in backlighting, the professional camera in automatic mode produces darker shots with nearly black shadows. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro captures processed photos with HDR. Almost always, the camera produced cooler images, while the photos from the iPhone had warmer tones. Additionally, the full-frame camera can demonstrate a more pronounced bokeh effect, whereas the smartphone camera may struggle with background blur.

Portrait shots taken with the Apple device's camera appeared to Viktor Khristov to be of higher quality. However, the journalist acknowledged that the photos from the Canon camera come out more natural and 'closer to reality.'

The PhoneArena author concluded that the shooting process on the iPhone camera is simplified due to automatic processing, but a professional camera can yield a higher result.
