Journalists from ZDNet reported on a built-in tool in Windows 11 that allows users to check the battery status of their portable computers. The material is available on the media's website.

The authors explained that laptop batteries are inherently consumables and need to be checked for their lifespan from time to time. It turns out that the Microsoft operating system has a hidden feature that allows users to check the battery's condition.

To access the tool, one needs to open the search bar, type powershell, and press Enter. Then, in the opened black window, one should enter powercfg /batteryreport /output "C:\battery-report.html" and press Enter again. After this, an HTML report containing information about the device's battery will be saved on the system drive — usually C.

"This report specifies the name of your battery, its chemical composition, status at this stage of its lifecycle, as well as some data about recent charging," the journalists noted. The authors of ZDNet concluded that having information about the battery's condition can help predict its failure and allow for timely replacement.
