The voicemail feature on Google smartphones was caught eavesdropping on users.

The voicemail feature on some smartphones running Android was eavesdropping on users. This was reported by The Verge.

The issue was discovered on Google Pixel smartphones and is related to the Take a Message feature. It automatically answers calls in the absence of the user, records the caller's voice, and converts it to text. Reddit users caught the feature recording not only the caller's message but also the surrounding environment.

"We investigated this issue and confirmed that it affects a very small group of Pixel 4 and 5 devices under very specific and rare circumstances," responded Google Community Manager Siri Tejaswini to the complaints. Currently, the spying features have been disabled, but they may be activated in the future.

"This is the most incredible malfunction I have ever encountered. Simply put: if I don't pick up the phone, I don't want the caller to hear me," stated a Reddit user with the nickname jsulliv1 in a post. His publication gathered nearly a thousand likes.
