The origin of fast radio bursts from binary systems has been confirmed.
Scientists from China, along with foreign colleagues, have confirmed the origin of fast radio bursts, sometimes referred to as 'alien signals', from binary systems using the Chinese radio telescope Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST). The study was published in the journal Science. This was reported by Xinhua.
The team of scientists observed fast radio burst 20220529 using FAST, the source of which is located about 2.5 billion light-years from Earth, for more than two years.
In the first 18 months, the object showed moderate fluctuations; however, in December 2023, scientists recorded a signal indicating the presence of a companion star orbiting around the signal source.
