Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin did not make the final list of contenders for the prestigious NHL award "Bill Masterton Trophy" for the season.
Despite the club nominating the Russian forward, the selection committee did not include him in the final trio of nominees. This year, the award contenders are Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog, and Winnipeg Jets forward Jonathan Toews.
The "Bill Masterton Trophy" is awarded for dedication to hockey, perseverance, and professionalism.
Each NHL club nominates one candidate, and this season, Washington nominated Ovechkin. However, he did not advance to the final selection stage.
Ovechkin remains one of the league's top scorers. He has 929 goals in NHL regular season play and 1,006 when including playoffs. In 2018, he led Washington to victory in the Stanley Cup.
