The women's sprint over 7.5 km was won by Frenchwoman Julia Simon, who did not miss a single shot.
Italian Lisa Vittozzi (silver) and Frenchwoman Lou Jeanmonnot (bronze) also looked confident at the shooting ranges.
The best of the Latvian biathletes, Estere Volfa, with perfect shooting, finished 1 minute and 7 seconds behind the winner, securing an honorable ninth place.
