The 40-year-old Russian forward for the Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin, recorded an assist in the regular season NHL game against the Detroit Red Wings (4-3 SO).

According to the NHL press service, Ovechkin scored his 1,669th point for the Washington Capitals, tying him with Wayne Gretzky for the most scoring points for a single club.

The Canadian former forward accumulated 1,669 points with the Edmonton Oilers. In the overall ranking, Ovechkin shares fifth place in NHL history with Gretzky.

NHL leaders in history for points with a single club: Gordie Howe (1,809 for Detroit), Steve Yzerman (1,755 for Detroit), Sidney Crosby (1,744 for Pittsburgh), and Mario Lemieux (1,723 for Pittsburgh).
