Alexander Ovechkin Sets New NHL Record

Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin scored a goal in the NHL regular season match against the Chicago Blackhawks (5:1) and set another record.

The goal scored became the 19th for the 40-year-old veteran in the current regular season.

Thus, Ovechkin became the third 40-year-old player in NHL history to score 19 goals in the first 45 games of the season, alongside Gordie Howe (21 goals in the 1968/1969 season and 19 in 1970/1971) and Johnny Bucyk (21 goals in the 1975/1976 season).

This achievement by Ovechkin is also the first in the NHL in the 21st century.
