Ovechkin Cuts His Deficit from Gretzky's Record to 25 Goals with a Brace

Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin scored a brace in the NHL regular season game against Anaheim (7-4).

In the middle of the second period, Ovechkin increased his team's lead to 5-1 and then scored another goal into an empty net. Thus, the forward recorded his 990th and 991st goals in the NHL, including playoffs. He needs to score 25 more times to match the Canadian Wayne Gretzky's record of 1,016 goals.

The record for the most goals scored in regular seasons belongs to Alexander Ovechkin. With his brace against Anaheim, the forward brought his total to 914.

Washington is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 50 points earned in 43 games this season.
