The legendary hockey player Sandis Ozoliņš is going through a tough time in his life. However, he is not alone in this — by his side is a loving and supportive wife who has her own opinion about what is happening: the claims of his ex-wife Sandra Ozoliņa and problems with business partner Armand Puče, writes Santa.lv.
“Sandis is a person with a big heart. Unfortunately, there are people who have taken advantage of his generosity, honesty, and trust for selfish purposes and still cannot stop,” said his wife, stylist Ina Ozoliņa, in an interview with the magazine Privātā Dzīve. The couple has been together for 10 years, and they got married four years ago. They are raising Ina's daughter from a previous relationship and their common son together.
Ina emphasizes that his attitude towards children was decisive for her at the beginning of their relationship.
“I would not live with a person who irresponsibly abandons children from previous relationships or behaves dishonorably by leaving a woman he has parted with in a difficult situation. People break up — that is life. But the fact that we are together proves that Sandis did not act against my life values.”
Ina considers the claims currently made against her husband by his ex-wife — the mother of his sons Kristofers (28 years old) and Roberts (31 years old), Sandra Ozoliņa — to be unfair. “I do not know her personally. We have never met or spoken in our lives,” added Ina. Currently, Sandra is legally demanding almost 2 million euros from her ex-husband.
“It feels like this person thinks she is simply entitled to it. But nothing in life is guaranteed for any of us. Neither that a partner will always be by our side nor that our income will be what we would like it to be. (…) Yes, Sandis stopped payments when the sons became adults who are capable of supporting themselves. Due to professional changes, Sandis's financial situation also changed. He did not hide or conceal what was happening — it was known to the other party as well. But apparently, she was not interested in how Sandis feels, how he lives, and how he is able to support the family, in which, by the way, a minor child is growing up,” said Ina.
“He has more than taken care of his ex-wife,” she is sure. “I do not know any other man who has parted with his past so generously. At first, I didn’t even believe that such amounts were possible until I saw everything with my own eyes,” admitted Sandis's wife.
Let us remind you that Sandis Ozoliņš began his career in 1990 with Riga's "Dinamo," where he returned in 2009 after a long period in the NHL. He participated in the NHL All-Star Game 7 times and was a Stanley Cup winner. He played for the Latvian national team and was its captain. Recently, he was included in the coaching staff of the Latvian hockey team for the 2026 Olympic Games.
In his time, Sandis Ozoliņš was the highest-paid athlete in the history of Latvia.
