Despite rising fuel prices, the government will ensure the continuous operation of emergency services, said Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis to the LETA agency.
He noted that this issue was discussed in the government and possible scenarios were worked out in case problems arise with fuel payments.
"First and foremost, emergency services will be ensured," the minister emphasized, adding that if high oil prices persist, it is likely that additional funding will need to be sought to provide services with fuel.
"The government will ensure the continuous operation of emergency services. This has been assessed. It is absolutely certain that emergency services will respond, and there will be no argument that it is impossible to respond to a call," the minister emphasized.
As reported, coalition partners agreed that regardless of possible scenarios, it is necessary to proactively develop measures to mitigate the impact of the crisis and identify funding sources. Given the rise in energy resource prices, ministries have been instructed to assess the needs arising from the crisis in the Middle East by May 6 and present proposals for addressing them within the existing budget, as well as evaluate the possibilities of reducing functions. In turn, the Ministry of Finance has been tasked with preparing an analysis of tax revenue performance.
In accordance with changes in the fuel market, measures to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices will be prioritized.
