Švinka expects a stabilization plan from the management of airBaltic

The Minister of Transport intends to discuss with the Prime Minister the possible reorganization of his ministry in the near future.

The head of the Ministry of Transport, Aitis Švinka ("Progressives"), noted in an interview with Latvian TV this evening that he inherited a difficult situation - the situation in airBaltic is dire, as the former chairman of the airline, Martin Gauss, decided to purchase new aircraft - 50 planes turned into 100 planes, and the society was never informed where the money for such purchases would come from?! As a result, the company is mired in debt. The minister critically assessed the bonds issued at the time with outrageous interest rates - 14.5%!

"It is clear that the situation is complicated, and I expect the airline's management to present a plan for further actions to stabilize the company in the coming months," the minister explained.

In response to a question about a possible reorganization of the Ministry of Transport itself, which the Prime Minister mentioned, Švinka stated that he intends to discuss with the Prime Minister her vision of a possible reorganization in the near future. The minister made it clear that discussions about reorganization are part of the pre-election rhetoric of politicians, just as the statements of the Minister of Economics about the readiness to take airBaltic under the supervision of his ministry.

"I can also propose to take over the regulation of fuel trade from the Ministry of Economics, as the Ministry of Economics clearly cannot handle it. It was promised that the price of a liter of diesel would be 1.80 euros. And where is it?!" noted A. Švinka.
