In Latvia, at the beginning of April of this year, the total tax debt, including current, suspended debts, and extended payment terms, amounted to €808.252 million, which is 1.9% less than the previous month and 0.9% less than at the beginning of the year, according to data from the State Revenue Service (SRS), reports LETA.
As of April 1, 2026, the debt to the main state budget amounted to €336.399 million, which is 3.8% less than the previous month, the debt to local government budgets was €289.269 million (a decrease of 0.9%), and the debts for social contributions totaled €182.585 million, which is 0.3% more.
Current debts, on which penalties for late payment are charged, as of April 1 of this year accounted for 60.7% of the total debt amount, or €490.834 million.
Data from the State Revenue Service (SRS) also shows that as of April 1 of this year, debts amounting to €2.292 million were recognized as hopeless for collection — these debts were incurred by liquidated enterprises before the completion of the liquidation process.
In turn, according to regulations, debts amounting to €488.542 million were recognized as collectible at the beginning of April, including debts recognized as actually collectible amounting to €193.145 million, and those recognized as actually uncollectible amounting to €295.397 million. Of the debts recognized as actually uncollectible, for debts amounting to €295.341 million, the debtors have no cash or property that can be seized, and the statute of limitations for collection has expired for debts amounting to €55,800.
Extensions for payment as of April 1 of this year were granted for debts totaling €87.961 million, which is 33.1% more than at the beginning of the year.
The amount of suspended debts, for which the accrual of penalties has been stopped, at the beginning of April of this year amounted to €229.458 million — this amount consists of debts of enterprises recognized as insolvent.
As of January 1, 2026, the total tax debt in Latvia was €815.729 million.
