Prime Minister Evika Silina may file a defamation lawsuit regarding the statements made by former director of the State Chancellery Jānis Citkovskis about the unjustified use of the VIP lounge at Amsterdam Airport, writes LETA.

Silina indicated on Twitter that, considering the current legal proceedings, including the criminal case against Citkovskis, his statements should be viewed as a defense tactic.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the claims made the day before are not true and added that she will assess the possibility of filing a lawsuit for defamation.

As reported, Citkovskis accuses Silina of the unjustified use of the VIP lounge at Amsterdam Airport.

In an interview with Latvian Television, Citkovskis stated that he and his colleagues from the State Chancellery often insisted on preventing unjustified expenses by officials, but they were often not listened to. One such case involved Silina: after she and her advisor visited the VIP lounge at Amsterdam Airport, the state received a bill of approximately 4000 euros.

Citkovskis mentioned that he refused to pay this bill, but he was removed from his position, and later the payment was approved by another official.

The former director of the State Chancellery added that similarly, former Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš allegedly demanded payment for the use of the VIP lounge for his daughter, which he claimed was illegal.

As reported, Citkovskis is currently involved in the case of the so-called flights of former Prime Minister Kariņš.
