"The most alarming thing in the latest SKDS survey is the large number of indifferent voters," notes Ir weekly columnist Aivars Ozoliņš.

In the latest SKDS survey commissioned by Latvian Television, support for all parties resembles the air temperature this week – a few degrees above zero. The highest figures are in the categories of "don't know" (26.1%) and "will not participate" (16.2%).

"This may comfort the fools frozen below the 5% threshold," writes Ozoliņš.

"However, for the 'big' parties – especially those in government, as well as those presenting themselves as an alternative to the current power – this is a warning that it is time to start worrying. 42% of voters either believe that none of the 15 parties included in the survey offers anything worthwhile, or do not even try to participate in the most important democratic process," the magazine Ir sounds the alarm.

"This may change, as there are still almost seven months until the elections, but the current result is a harsh assessment of the politicians. Moreover, it is the Prime Minister's party 'New Unity' that has seen the largest drop in support," the magazine writes, which is usually quite loyal to the mentioned 'New Unity'.
