Diplomat Olgerts Pavlovskis Has Died

Latvian politician and public figure Olgerts Pavlovskis has passed away, reported Foreign Minister Baiba Braže on Twitter, according to LETA.

According to information in the LETA agency archive, Pavlovskis was born in 1934. He received his education in the United States, specializing in microbiology, and worked for over 20 years at the U.S. Navy Medical Research Institute.

After the restoration of Latvia's independence, he actively engaged in politics, was elected to the 5th Saeima, and also served as the State Minister for Foreign Trade and the European Union.

He also held the position of Latvia's ambassador to Spain and was active in public life both in Latvia and in the Latvian diaspora, leading the World Association of Free Latvians.

For his contribution to the development of the state, Pavlovskis was awarded the Order of the Three Stars.
