European Parliament member Vilis Kristopans hopes for fundamental changes in the European Union.
"The adoption of the resolution that mandates a review of migration policy is, to some extent, a historic event! For the first time in a long time, the European Parliament has dared to oppose uncontrolled migration and initiate a legal process for the expulsion of illegal migrants from EU countries!" said European Parliament member Vilis Kristopans from the political group 'Patriots for Europe.'
— This is also a success for our political group 'Patriots for Europe.' The European Parliament, with 389 votes in favor, 206 against, and 32 abstentions, agreed to start negotiations with EU member states on an updated EU return system for third-country nationals illegally residing in the EU. Stricter rules have been introduced for individuals posing a security threat.
The return to a third country may occur based on an agreement between member states and the EU and the third country, including so-called return centers. Returning individuals may be detained for up to 24 months if they do not cooperate or pose a flight risk.
As I have repeatedly stated, including in the pages of your publication, the issue of migration for the EU is no longer just a matter of security, not just a matter of compliance with the law, it is a question of the future of the European Union! If we do not stop the uncontrolled influx of third-country nationals — primarily from Asia and Africa — the very existence of European civilization, Christian values, our European way of life will be at risk! Even today, or rather — even yesterday, in many EU countries, the situation has simply spiraled out of control due to disproportionately high immigration! If Europe wants to survive in this clash of civilizations, the only way in the current circumstances is strict restrictions on the entry of migrants into the country and the expulsion of those who are here without legal grounds. 'Patriots for Europe' has consistently advocated for a tough migration policy since the very first day of our political group's formation. Half-measures will no longer help — everything is too far gone. The reason is also obvious: the dominance of leftist politics in EU countries! Left-liberal ideology has already led the European Union to endless troubles in the form of a disastrous 'green course,' an influx of migrants, and economic weakening. The EU has lost competitiveness in the economy and, by the way, as we see, has completely lost influence on the international stage — all global issues are being resolved without Europe's participation!
But all is not hopeless — we see that gradually the European voter is awakening, public sentiment is changing, and we hope that in the end, common sense will prevail and we will save dear old Europe!
— Mr. Kristopans, elections will take place in Hungary this weekend. Since the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban is one of the co-founders of 'Patriots for Europe,' your favorite in this election is clear...
— Yes, of course, our political group and I personally support Mr. Orban and wish him victory! For him, Hungary and the Hungarian people come first, and all his policies are aimed at defending the interests of his country. By the way, what our party 'Latvia First' advocates has long been implemented in Hungary — women raising two or more children are exempt from income tax! As is known, members of the Saeima from 'Latvia First' proposed a similar initiative, but the majority of the parliament did not even allow this proposal to be forwarded for discussion in committee! This is how our government 'supports' demographics!
In any case, whatever choice the Hungarian people make on April 12, Hungary's course and priorities are unlikely to change radically.
— You mentioned the disastrous 'green course.' Has it already been managed to stop?
— This is a very difficult task, given the funds allocated for it, the strong support of the majority of the European Parliament, and a huge army of lobbyists! However, the objective situation in Europe is already forcing these, as I call them, green hallucinations to slow down! European car manufacturers are gradually bringing back internal combustion engine vehicles to their lineup, major EU countries are postponing the deadlines for transitioning to electric engines or even canceling decisions to abandon the production of vehicles with internal combustion engines. This process of abandoning the green course, I remind you, was first initiated by Donald Trump, thereby restoring the competitiveness of the USA and initiating the process of reviving production!
— You are surely following the current agenda of Latvia's domestic politics. One of the hot topics right now is the provision of a short-term loan to the national airline airBaltic. What is your opinion on this?
— Of course, we all want the national airline to develop and thus contribute to attracting tourists and investments to Latvia... But not at any cost! Today, airBaltic has been brought to its knees by our helpless government, with debts exceeding 1 billion euros! In this situation, giving a loan is like throwing taxpayers' money straight into the furnace! Therefore, both I and my colleagues from 'Latvia First' are categorically against providing a loan — it is obvious that this 30 million will simply be lost, the airline will not be able to repay it! A real rescue plan for the airline is needed, and this plan is with the leader of 'Latvia First,' prime minister candidate Ainars Slesers!
