Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Siliņa will ensure that the electronic signature remains accessible, user-friendly, stable, and reliable in the future, stated Siliņa's communications advisor Sandris Sabaevs.

Last week, the TV3 program "Nekā personīga" reported that if the government does not make a decision in the coming weeks, the electronic signature service may become unavailable starting in January.

According to Sabaevs, Siliņa discussed the situation with the Minister of Smart Governance and Regional Development, Raimonds Čudars, and the Minister of Finance, Arvils Ašeradens.

The ministries responsible for the electronic signature - the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Smart Governance and Regional Development - have been tasked with presenting a clear solution to the government as soon as possible to ensure the continuity of the service, Sabaevs clarified.

The program "Nekā personīga" reported last year that this year the state enterprise "Latvian State Radio and Television Centre" (LSRTC) is set to expire the mandate issued by the government ten years ago for servicing the electronic signature.

The decision on who and how will provide this service in the future has been delayed to the extent that LSRTC warns: if the government does not make a decision in the coming weeks, the electronic signature service may become unavailable starting in January.
