Latvian Prime Minister Discusses Government's Plans to Tackle Fuel Crisis

Thinking about curbing fuel price increases, the government is currently discussing the possible use of state fuel reserves, Prime Minister Evika Silina stated in an interview with LTV on the program "Morning Panorama" on Thursday, without naming other possible solutions, according to LETA.

"To limit fuel prices, the government discussed the possibility of using state reserves, but the prime minister has not yet named any alternatives."

The Latvian Prime Minister discussed how the government plans to combat the fuel crisis.

In response to a question about whether other solutions besides the already mentioned release of state fuel reserves into the market are being considered to combat the rapid rise in fuel prices, the politician did not name any alternative options but promised that the government would be ready to respond promptly.

The Prime Minister reminded that she issued a resolution to the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Climate and Energy, instructing them to propose solutions for stabilizing the fuel market in the short and long term.

In her opinion, there is currently no significant frenzy in the fuel market in Latvia.

Speaking about another relevant topic — the railway project "Rail Baltica," Silina emphasized that none of the Baltic countries currently have enough funding to complete the railway line, so all states need to continue seeking funds.

Silina does not see herself as responsible for the failures of the "Rail Baltica" project, as there are many directly responsible officials who also earn higher salaries than the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing with the German defense company "Rheinmetall" about what portion of the products from the potentially created factory in Latvia the state, which will be a co-owner of the enterprise, should guarantee to purchase.
