Demographic Issues Addressed at the Riga Castle

Today at 10 a.m., a discussion on demographic issues was held at the Riga Castle at the invitation of the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, the LETA agency was informed by the president's office.

During the discussion, the work done and the priority tasks for improving demographic trends were discussed.

Representatives of the factions and responsible committees of the Saeima, ministers of relevant ministries, social partners of the government, non-governmental organizations, and demographic researchers were invited to the discussion.

Last year, a discussion on demographic issues also took place at the Riga Castle. At that time, the President of Latvia highlighted security and national defense as a priority. According to him, many families, seeing what is happening in the world today and hearing various statements, are seriously considering whether to have children and what their future will be like.

Rinkēvičs believes that the next priority is to stop the demographic crisis. In his opinion, it is necessary to halt the decline and then gradually move towards overcoming the crisis by increasing birth rates. He noted that there are a number of benefits that have not been increased for many years. According to Rinkēvičs, this needs to be done to show that the state is serious in its actions.
