The ruling party is completely confused...
On Monday, the coalition council decided to convene an extraordinary government meeting on Wednesday, that is, today, to discuss the amendments proposed by the Minister of Welfare, Rainis Uzuliņieks (Union of Greens and Farmers), which would allow more households to qualify for housing benefits from municipalities during the current heating season.
This extraordinary Cabinet meeting was supposed to start today at 12:00 PM. However, an hour and a half before the meeting, the board of the Union of Greens and Farmers, citing a clause in the coalition agreement, called on government partners to postpone the decision for a week to discuss the issue of housing benefits with municipalities. It is still unclear how the Prime Minister will act and whether the extraordinary government meeting will take place today. We might dare to assume that in the end, the meeting will indeed be postponed... Meanwhile, the amendments still need to be approved by the Saeima.
It is unclear why the partners could not agree on everything during the coalition meeting on Monday? After all, they dedicated more than an hour to the issue of benefits during the meeting.
