The Prime Minister of Latvia, Evika Silina, is having an exciting weekend in Milan, Italy, where the Winter Olympics have opened.
Silina participated in a reception for heads of state and government organized by the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. She watched the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics and also interacted with Latvian athletes, reports the Prime Minister's Bureau.
As part of her visit, the Prime Minister attended a training session of the Latvian national ice hockey team and skated on the ice. Her skating was personally coached by Haralds Vītoliņš, who led the Russian national hockey team to Olympic gold medals eight years ago.
Judging by her satisfied smile, Silina enjoyed skating. Although her technique still needs some work:

At this Winter Olympics, Latvia is represented by the largest team in its history. This is a testament to both the athletes' skill and their belief in their goals."
At the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Latvia is represented by the largest delegation — 68 athletes in nine sports. In terms of the number of athletes, Latvia ranks 15th among 93 participating countries. Let's see what place Latvia will take in terms of the number of medals.
