Chairman of the Ogre Regional Council Egils Helmanis (National Alliance) has decided to resign from the position of mayor, according to his statement on the social network Facebook, LETA reports.
Helmanis published a video in which, lying in a hospital ward, he announced that he had found himself in the hospital again, and therefore, after nearly nine years in office, he decided to leave the position of mayor of Ogre. According to him, the team will continue to work to fulfill the promises made.
Helmanis expressed hope to "return to the ranks as soon as possible."
In the Ogre Regional Council, the LETA agency was unable to comment on Helmanis's decision, stating that they do not have information about his resignation.
