The Ministry of Economics proposes amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers' rules, providing that in the future, primary placement of civilian residents of Ukraine in Latvia will be ensured for up to 60 days, according to information on the regulatory acts portal, writes LETA.
The Ministry of Economics indicates that amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers' rules "Rules for Providing Primary Assistance to Civilian Residents of Ukraine" provide for the establishment of a single main placement period — up to 60 days instead of the current periods: up to 60 or up to 120 days.
It is also planned to reduce the amount of compensation for food provided by the state to civilian residents of Ukraine. Starting from March 1, 2026, it is proposed to establish a uniform compensation for municipalities — up to five euros per day per person, regardless of whether food services or products are provided. Until now, food expenses were covered up to 10 euros per day.
At the same time, if after the initial 60-day period, both individuals entitled to extended placement for up to 180 days and other individuals continue to reside in the same living space, rent compensation will only be paid for those entitled to extended support, with a proportional recalculation.
Funding for supporting civilian residents of Ukraine in 2026 is planned at 39.718 million euros, which is less than in 2025, when 65 million euros were allocated for these purposes.
