On the platform of public initiatives "Manabalss.lv", the necessary 10,000 signatures have been collected for the initiative to raise the limit on justified expenses in the annual income declaration, reports LETA.
Collecting at least 10,000 signatures allows the initiative to be submitted for consideration by the Saeima.
The author of the initiative is Laura Jauce, who argues that the limit on reimbursable justified expenses has not been increased since 2017, when it was raised by 300 euros. Jauce notes that over the past five years, the cost of doctor consultations and examinations has significantly increased.
According to the author, the waiting time for visits to state doctors and for examinations is very long, which forces many people to use paid medical services. As Jauce points out, medical expenses per person over the course of a year often significantly exceed 1,000 euros, which is why she calls for an increase in the limit on justified expenses.
Jauce proposes raising the limit from 600 euros to 1,500–1,700 euros, as under current medical service prices, it is practically impossible to recover even half of the overpaid tax in one year.
"Increasing the limit on justified expenses will allow some people not to be afraid to use paid medical services, knowing that they can recover more of the overpaid tax, and thus take care of their health in a timely manner, rather than allowing the development of potential chronic diseases," the initiative states.
